Seal Line Blocker Purgeair Dry Sack – Review

Seal Line blocker purgeair dry sack

I have wanted dry bags like these for years! Lightweight, waterproof and with a one-way valve, Seal Line has solved all my issues with the Blocker Purgeair Dry Sack. I’ve used Seal Line gear since 2006 and have never been disappointed. When I saw them listed as one of the companies I could have an affiliation with, I applied right away knowing they produce a quality product I could stand behind.

My Problems with Traditional Dry Bags

My old dry bags (yes, I have dry bags that are 13 years old) are thick rubber meaning they are heavy and bulky. This is fine for sea kayaking but not for backpacking. For a long time, I stopped using dry bags for my trekking adventures. I had moved to using single use plastic bags to waterproof all my clothing, my sleeping system, and various other items.

These rubberized dry bags are also tricky to get all the air out of. Of course, practice makes this possible, but even still it took a few tries to get them air free and down to the size I wanted.

I always struggled to squeeze them into small spaces. The rubber is tacky and hard to fit inside a pack.

The rubber is also heavy! The rubberize dry bags are 11oz before gear.

Why the Seal Line Blocker Purgeair Dry Sack is Amazing

Being able to squeeze out ALL the air from your dry bag is a game changer. I can now pack my clothes away, close the top while removing the bulk of the air and then effectively vacuum seal the bag. My dry bags are smaller than ever before! I love the one way valve system!

Seal Line’s Blocker Purgeair Dry Sacks are not rubber, they are 70D polyurethane-coated nylon. The 10L bag weighs just 2.4oz!!

The nylon fabric allows them to slide into any space easier than my old rubber bags. There is a fine line between lightweight and durable, but I think these bags hit the mark. The fabric is thinner, lighter and smoother yet the waterproof effectiveness remains the same.

Testing the Blocker Purgeair Dry Sack

Is it really as waterproof as the heavy-duty dry bags? Yes. I left my 20 litre bag outside overnight in the rain with a towel inside, this was my first test of the waterproofness. The next morning, the towel was cold but totally dry. My next test was a submersion test, again with a towel inside. I took the 20 litre bag and put it in the bathtub overnight. Dry. Ready to field test.

I used both the 10 litre and the 20 litre bag on my recent 6 day West Coast Trail hike. We did get very lucky with the weather but the last day, it poured. I had all my clothes and my sleeping system in the dry bags, as well as a rain cover over my pack. At the end of the day, I was very happy to be able to put on dry clothes and know my down sleeping bag was also dry.

I need more of these!

The Blocker Purgeair Dry Sack offers the perfect solution for adventurers to move away from single use plastic bags and back to reusable dry bags. Join me in changing the way you and others adventure by using Seal Line’s Blocker Purgeair Dry Sack instead of large zip lock bags on your future adventures.
