Ready? Let’s go!
Meet the Gear
Let’s start with the women’s Freeflex Move pants. At first glance, I was skeptical if these clean and stylish pants would hold up in the outdoors. Lightweight, quick dry, and yet exceptionally durable, I was quite surprised at what they have held up to in over a year of hiking, biking, and general wear and tear.
Features of the Kuhl Women’s Freeflex Move Pants
Different by design is true. While technically outdoor pants, these clean and classy pants are easy to wear to business casual meetings, while picking up the kids, or on that 36-hour travel day.
- Made of Kuhl’s polyester blend called ‘freeflex’, these pants are made to move. I would have called them “lightweight freeflex” because they are barely there!
- The mutliway stretch is some of the best I’ve experienced and the fabric is very soft against the skin.
- Water resistance and SPF 50 ensure that all year round, these pants keep you protected from the elements.
- Draw cord hem is key to muddy trails and keeping your pants out of your derailleur!
Fit Notes for Kuhl Freeflex Move Pants
I am 5’5” and 152 lbs and a medium is perfect. Last year, I was about 10 lbs heavier and would have preferred a large for the waist and hips.
- With a wide pull on waistband, I love the comfort and look of these pants. They don’t pinch and show off my pouch but stays flat and even hides my love handles a little bit!
- The mid-rise style for me, is perfect since I don’t like highwaists and yet there’s lots of coverage when you bend and move.
- I love the classy look of the relaxed leg from thigh to hem and with the hidden pockets, it’s easy to dress these pants up. Perfect for travelling!
- I was surprised that the inseam hits at the ankle but have come to appreciate this cropped effect when using the adjustable bottom hem to avoid mud, water, and bike derailleurs. The cropped look is very cute with burks or classier sandals for travel.
- There is no sag or bag in these pants! Even after a year of high use, they have held their stretch that rebounds and luxuriously soft texture.
Field Tests of Freeflex Move Kuhl Pants
I have had these pants for just over 1 year and they are now my go-to pants. Super comfy, literally move with you from desk to trail to yoga class, I wear them multiple days per week. The Freeflex Move pants are the perfect option if you’re not super into leggings (which I am not!) and yet are stretchy, soft and I would say more comfortable anyway!
As adventure pants, they have come with me for multiple overnight, backcountry hikes as well as serve as my fall mountain biking pants. They cut the wind and light drizzle, keeping me very comfortable here in the Kootenays.
I have found the optimal temperature range for these pants is 5-25C. Below 5C you need to add thin long underwear (great combo for XC skiing) and above 25C, well just switch to shorts!
Having these pants in grey (Flint), you do have to take care to spot-treat chain grease stains and coffee spills, but the water repellency has helped the stain not take a stronghold. Wash in cold water to ensure stains don’t set and hand to dry to maintain elasticity.
My next pair will be a darker version to hide the wear and tear for adventures and then I’d get a pair in Sage or Rainstorm for more casual wear. I could outfit an entire capsule wardrobe with 3 pairs of Freeflex Move pants!
Final Thoughts
I would confirm that KUHL has lived up to its brand promise and delivered yet another top-quality piece of clothing. Known for their dedication to quality and adventure-ready design, KUHL’s Freeflex Move pants provide both comfort and performance.
The Freeflex Move pants are lightweight, quick-drying, and durable, making them suitable for a variety of outdoor activities. Field tests confirm their comfort, flexibility, and adaptability to different activities and temperatures. I highly recommend them!
