Why the Perfect Sandals?
I’ve always had a tough time with sandals, and have gone through several summers without wearing sandals at all because I just couldn’t find any that worked for me. I have always found thong styles, like flip-flops, very uncomfortable. They rub between my toes and cause sore spots, so I stay away from this style. I also have knobs on the sides of my big toes that look perfectly normal now, but have the potential to turn into huge bunions with the wrong shoes. Avoiding shoes that put pressure on this area is critical! Otherwise my feet feel like they are made of fire. Or acid. Or killer flesh-eating ants.
This may seem melodramatic, but you’d understand if you saw some of my relatives feet. I love them, but their bunions are truly the stuff of nightmares.
Perfect Sandal Criteria
So, what do I need in the perfect pair of sandals? We’ve already established that my ideal sandal can’t be a thong, and can’t put pressure on my zone-of-potential-bunion-horror. In addition to these, there is more criteria to be met;
- I am very outdoorsy and love to hike with my dogs all over Ontario. So, I need something durable and rugged that isn’t going to snap a strap in the middle of the woods.
- I’m in and out of the water all summer long, so my shoes can’t deteriorate the second they get wet. These shoes need to be comfortable, of course, for all of the walking that I do. And finally, though certainly not crucial, I would love something that’s actually kinda cute.
I’ve been looking for this “holy grail” of summer footwear for years. I’ve probably tried on hundreds of sandals during this quest that just didn’t do the trick. After all this searching, in June of 2018 I finally found them!
Teva Verra Specs
Teva’s Verra sandals are light-weight, durable, and come in several fun colors (I picked purple!). Though not necessarily waterproof, I’ve found that they dry out fully in about 20 minutes so they’re perfect for wading into the lake on a hot day. They even have a Microban anti-microbial treatment that keeps them fresh from sweat and water alike. These shoes are so comfortable, with support for my feet and a cushiony feel. The straps don’t rub on my skin or cause irritation and I can walk for hours, on trail or sidewalk, without any discomfort.
Teva Verra Review
As I write this, these shoes have now seen me through two Northern Ontario summers and several adventure trips. The Teva Verra’s have been dunked into the largest lake in Mongolia, explored the deserts of Arizona, and seen me through many hiking and camping adventures close to home. I even wear them around town, as they don’t look too shabby with a pair of jeans or a light dress. I truly love these shoes, and would definitely recommend them to anyone else seeking that perfect summer sandal.
