  • The Turnip Bed and Breakfast (Parsons Pond) – A cozy and welcoming B&B with a homely atmosphere and access to beautiful hiking trails. Supporting local farms through their farm to table homemade breakfast – not to be missed! 
  • Quirpon Lighthouse Inn (Quirpon Island) – A unique stay in a historic lighthouse with breathtaking ocean views and the chance to spot icebergs and whales. Requires boat access and all meals included during your stay. My mother in law loved this place!
  • Toulinguet Inn (Twillingate) – A waterfront inn offering comfortable accommodations and incredible sunset views over the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Fogo Island Inn (Fogo Island) – A world-famous architectural masterpiece offering an immersive experience in one of Newfoundland’s most remote and beautiful locations.

Best Places to Stay in Newfoundland: for Hiking

Newfoundland is a paradise for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, offering accommodations close to some of the best trails in the province.  Whether you want to stay in a rustic lodge or a well-equipped hotel in Gros Morne National Park, there are plenty of options.

Recommended Stays for Hikers:

Corner Brook 

  • River’s End Motel (Corner Brook) – Budget-friendly stay within walking distance of the Old Man in the Mountain trail, providing self-catering kitchens and the friendliest housekeepers. Owned by my in-laws and perfect for adventurers!
  • Hew & Draw Hotel (Corner Brook) – A stylish downtown hotel with easy access to restaurants and shops, located within 40 minutes of the region’s best hiking routes. Has a great pub for post-adventure hangouts with locals. 

Gros Morne National Park 

  • Neddies Harbour Inn (Norris Point) – A charming waterfront inn in the heart of the park, just seven minutes from the Gros Morne Mountain trailhead.
  • Out East Adventure Centre Hostel (Rocky Harbour) – A budget-friendly hostel with a communal atmosphere, ideal for hikers looking to explore the park’s many trails. Staff is super knowledgeable and offers many guided excursions right from the front desk!
  • The Rooms at Woody Point (Woody Point) – Ideally located for exploring the Tablelands and nearby Discovery Centre. Waterfront and downtown Woody Point. People LOVE the location!

St. Anthony

  • Crows Nest Inn (St. Anthony) – A convenient base for visiting L’Anse aux Meadows and hiking the scenic trails around Fishing Point.
  • Tuckamore Lodge (Main Brook) – My personal favourite andthe place I always took clients too. Great central location for hiking in Coche and Englee as well as day trips to St.Anthony and L’anse aux Meadows. Offers a lakeside wood-fired sauna for post-hike or travel relaxation. Lots of wildlife viewing here too. 

Central Newfoundland

  • The Old Salt Box Co – Gertie’s Place (Twillingate) – A charming oceanfront stay with stunning views, making it an excellent base for hikers exploring the nearby coastal trails and iceberg viewing spots.
  • The Harbourside Inn (Port Union) – A historic inn located near great hiking routes and perfect for kayakers wanting to explore the scenic coastline of the Bonavista Peninsula. 

Avalon Peninsula

  • Harry’s House (Heart’s Delight) – A cozy and comfortable stay near scenic coastal trails, making it a great base for those looking to explore the rugged coastline and nearby hiking routes.
  • Cliffs Edge Retreat (Bauline East) – A peaceful retreat perched on a cliffside, offering guests breathtaking ocean views and easy access to sections of the East Coast Trail, perfect for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
